About a month ago, Donna finally finished her Cabled Cardigan that she was knitting for the “Knit a sweater in 30 days KAL”. She didn’t quite make the deadline, unlike Dorothy, but she did finish it and now wears it proudly.

Here’s a little information recap on the sweater. Th sweater was knit in Sublime Soya Cotton dk in flax. The pattern is the Cabled Cardigan with Flowers from Vogue Knitting by Plymouth Yarns (Ravelry link). Donna didn’t knit the flowers but did the cabled panel.

Here are a few pictures for your enjoyment!

Dorothy was the one who finished her sweater in less than 30 days in our latest KAL. Here is a fun interview that we had with her.

Your sweater looks really nice. Can you tell me a bit more about the pattern and the yarn you used?
Thank you! The pattern I chose was a very simple one from the Spring/Summer 2008 issue of KnitSimple.  I changed the pattern a bit because I do not care for sleeves or bottoms that just roll up. I added 4 rows of K2 P2 ribbing to sleeves and bottom hem line.  I also knit the whole sweater using size 6 needles so the bottom and sleeves would not pull in. The yarn I chose was the Sublime Soya/Cotton  in Cinnamon.

Can you tell us when you started knitting on the sweater and how long it took you to finish it?
I actually do not remember the exact date for starting but I think it was about the 23rd of May and I finished it up on the 11th of June.  As I mentioned is was a very fast knit.

What size needle did you use and did you get gauge right away?
I used a size 6 needle and yes the gauge was correct the first time. I made a swatch to check it.

How did you like working with the yarn? Will you try some of the other Sublime lines?
I love working with the Sublime Soya/Cotton blend, but the best thing about it is how it feels on. I loved the tight twist of the yarn and it was very easy to knit with. The only thing that bothered me was there were several knots in a couple of balls and I would not notice until almost finishing a row and I would have to unknit back. I wanted to only join in the seam allowance because this is a very soft yarn and any where else would have showed.
I have plans to knit a summer sweater using Sublimes 100% Organic Cotton in colour way Pea Pod. It feels wonderful also. Have not started it yet as I am finishing up a pair  of socks right now.

I hear that this was your first experience posting on a blog and that you just started your own blog. Can you tell us how this went for you and how you’re enjoying your new skills? Also, can you share with us your new blog address?
You know, the most time consuming part of this challenge was trying to set up a blog. Though the instructions were easy to follow, it was still time consuming and as soon as I would upload I would notice a mistake and have to edit. Then I had to learn how to post to your KAL thread so you would see my progress. That took me a couple more days. I am slow to get posting done but I think I am really going to like having my blog. I still am a little confused about uploading pictures to Flickr but I think that is more because I am on dial up, which I hope to change soon. My new blog address is http://barncat97.wordpress.com/ Come visit me any time.

What else do you enjoy knitting? What projects are you working on at the moment?
I LOVE socks!!! They are my favourite thing to knit!! And all the luscious yarns by indie dyers are just wonderful. I am fussy about wool though and choose only Merino or Merino blend. I have socks going now for a friend in New Hampshire. and a pair going for me.

Can you tell us something fun about you related to knitting in general?
I learned knit in a Parochial school in England when I was 5 years old. You know back when the “proper” thing for girls to learn was handwork. Now, even though I knit all my socks on dps, when I knit anything else  I pretty much use straight needles. I use the longest I can get usually 14″ and I place the right needle in right arm pit.  The local yarn shop  refer to me as the “pitknitter” and seem to fascinate everyone with this method. Who knew.

Note from Dorothy: “I want to thank you for inviting me to this KAL and for the absolutely wonderful prize package!!”

FINISHED KAL SWEATER

I finished the knit along sweater before the dead line!! It is reall a simple pattern and the little capped sleeved were super fast to knit. It is made from the Soya/Cotton blend from Sublime and feels silky soft against your skin. Definitely a nice yarn to work with.

ALMOST FINISHED

Well today I finished sleeve one and sewed it in then finished the side seam. I am half finished with the second sleeve and hope to post a picture of the completed sweater tomorrow.  This yarn is so pleasent to touch that even this heat is not bothering me. It just feels cool and silky. More tomorrow.

I have now finished the front and back of my sweater and also sewn shoulder seams. I start sleeve number one and hope to finish tomorrow. They are sort of short cap sleeves so imagine they will knit up quick. This is a fun sweater for a quick knit. That is if you can avoid interuptions!! No pictures today but will try and update tomorrow! I know I am in the final week and must ignore interuptions but my hubby insists on food occationally so I am trying to feed him only once a day until finished. :)

I haven’t given up, I’m still working on my socks! I’m actually almost done with sock #1, only 8 rows plus bind-off row and I’ll have one sock done. Sock #2 is another story entirely.

Here’s a picture of it from a few days ago (I’ve got more done on it now but I don’t have an updated picture).

The yarn is O-Wool Classic 2-ply in Robin’s Egg and the pattern is Rococo Socks by Knitspot.

BACK FINISHED

Hi again. Yes I have been working on my sweater but had company so I am a little slow on showing my progress. Here is the back/ or the front as both are the same. I made a couple of changes in the pattern as I wanted a small ribbed bottom. I added a couple of rows of garter stitch to the collar. I love this yarn as I have said but it does have one thing that bothers me. It has several knotted places in each ball. I just cut and start again but I have gotten half way arross a row some times before I find the knot and have to unstitch back to the beginnig. It does feel heavenly  soft against the skin and knits nice even stitches.  The front is two thirds done but a little difficult to show at the moment.  More tomorrow on my progress.

KNIT A SWEATER IN 30 DAYS

Wow am I ever trying to figure out this posting to the correct site I have been knitting and have almost finished my back. I am using the Sublime soya/cotton  yarn and I just love it. Here is a picture of my pattern and yarn. Hey I think I am finally figuring it out. I will have a picture of the back tomorrow.

I haven’t had time to knit much on the sweater the last few days so I’m just casting on for the right front now. I can’t get a good picture of it at this time but hopefully I’ll be able to get a nice picture for next post!

Finished back!

Day 4

  • Finished armhole but had to rip out, I was following the wrong decreases while watching tv. It’s fun to knit while watching tv or going to the movies… but you gotta watch out for the mistakes!

 Day 5

  • Finished knitting the back. My friend Michelle and I were having coffee at our favorite coffee shop. She did some quick measurements to make sure that it would fit and we came to the conclusion that it looked like it would fit just fine.

Next up, fronts!
